Cheers!

We have been privileged to help many couples celebrate their special day over the years with custom created items.  However, as we now have our laser engraving machine, we now have the ability to create personalized champagne glasses for weddings.  We have been working on a few stock designs, but can customize anything to order.  Here are the lovely Mr. and Mrs. champagne flutes:

I love the little hearts in the curls of the M!  Of course, you really can't appreciate them fully without a bit of bubbly to add that festive touch.

We are also offering the traditional Bride & Groom option as well.  And of course we are able to add names and dates to any of these items.

We are also offering the custom engraving in wine glasses as well as beer/pint glasses!

Rainbow Bridge Candle Holder

Now that the Christmas rush is over, we can take some time to work on some new items for our store.  We are very excited to be able to try out some new designs on our laser cutter & engraver.

We started by creating some personalized glass candle holders.  This Christmas, our Rainbow Bridge ornament was extremely popular.  We thought we would like to have a similar item that could be used year-round, instead of just the holiday season.  So we are now offering a Rainbow Bridge candle holder.

We can personalize this with any name and any message.  We will also offer it, as we did with the ornament, with your choice of paw print, cat silhouette or dog breed silhouette in the center.

This particular votive holder is for our dear sweet Mr. Walter Magoo, who was one of our rescue pugs who holds a special place in our hearts.

Doctor Who Adipose Ornament Has Arrived

As anyone who knows us is aware, we are HUGE Doctor Who fans.  We are eagerly awaiting the return of the Doctor in the Dr. Who Christmas special. But in the meantime, we wanted to bring a big of Whovian charm to our Christmas tree.  So we have adapted our Adipose design we created for our custom applique and embroidered pillows to create a new ornament.

This custom designed laser cut ornament is made of birch.  It has been lightly sanded and coated with shellac to preserve the natural beauty of the wood.  It is topped with a red silken cord and is ready to hang on your tree.

We will of course continue to offer the very popular throw pillows with the Adipose design.

But in addition, we are now offering our custom designed Adipose applique in a patch form!  We have had so many people ask us for our designs, that we are now offering limited editions of applique patches.  They are available either in sew-on or iron-on versions.  So if you love the Adipose, but would like to have one on a special item you already have, now you can purchase the patch and add it yourself!  We are also currently offering the Tardis as well, so if you know a Whovian that needs their own Tardis, here's your chance to surprise them this Christmas.

Hurry and grab them before the season is over!

Personalized Ornaments Now Available

Introducing our new line of personalized custom engraved Christmas ornaments!  Just in time for the holidays, we now offer several lines of unique laser engraved ornaments which can be personalized.

Firstly, we are offering a line of couple's first Christmas ornaments.  There are several designs to choose from, just add the names of the couple and the date.  In case you didn't get one for YOUR first Christmas together, we can back-date them to reflect whatever year your first Christmas was celebrated.

First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes baby in a baby carriage!

Yes, we are also offering a line of Baby's first Christmas ornaments.  Again, there are several nursery themed designs to choose from.  Then add in the baby's name and the year.  Or, give us the birth date and we'll put that there in place of 2014.

And let's not forget the furry kids!  We are also offering ornaments for your dog or cat.  For the cats, choose from a paw print design or a cat silhouette and finish with your kitty's name.

For the dogs, we offer the paw print or the silhouette of the specific dog breed.

Now we can help you celebrate the Christmas season by recognizing that special someone and preserving the memories forever!

Bowties Are Cool!

We have recently introduced a new item to our shop which is causing quite a stir!  We have covered a nylon webbing collar with a white oxford shirt collar and topped it off with a set of 3 interchangeable bow ties.

The set includes a traditional black tie, a red silk tie and a cute tartan plaid tie.  They have proven to be quite popular.

But now we want to give people a little more choice and flexibility by offering new bowtie options.  We will be launching these items shortly, but in the meantime here is a little teaser:

And, for you Dr. Who fans out there, here is a little message from our boy Charlie:

Custom Made - For Big Dogs Too!

As we are a family of pug lovers, and have been involved in pug rescue, most of our coats have been made with pugs in mind.  Nevertheless, I have always tried to make sure people understood that we can make any item for any size dog.  Yes, we do Chihuahua-sized coats as well as Retriever-sized coats.

Just the other day we had a custom order for a Collie/Jack Russell named Jacob.  He apparently is more Collie than Russell as this fella needed a coat to fit his 25" back!  Sadly, I don't have a model dog that is the right measurements to show off the finished product very well, but at least this will give everyone an idea of the size of his finished coat:

We hope that Jacob loves his new coat and that he shares some photos of him modeling it for us very soon!

As always, we love to have happy pups share photos of themselves enjoying our items.  So please feel free to send us your photos of your doggie in Lady Maggie wear and we will share it with everyone here

Putting on the Ritz

As the holiday season approaches, we are always looking for new ideas for taking photos of our furbabies.  In the past we have set up creative photo opportunities and created custom Christmas cards to send out to friends and family.  At the very least, we post photos on Facebook and our blog for people to see our furkids enjoying the festive season.

This year, we thought we would have a bit of fun and create a formal range here at Lady Maggies.  We have created an interchangeable bow tie and shirt collar for the discerning canine.  Of course there is the requisite black tie, but we are also including a festive red dupioni silk tie and for a bit of fun, there is a tartan plaid bow tie. (Of course we know they are properly called dickie bows in the UK, not bow ties but we do live in the US now!)

The listing is available in our Etsy shop with photos of our Charles and Stewart modeling, but we wanted to share an outtake of our dear Charlie clowning around between shots:

Please take a look at our listing to see our beautiful boys in action:

And check back with us as we share some new and exciting items to be added shortly!

Busy Little (Sewing) Bee

There's been loads of activity going on behind the scenes here at Lady Maggie over the past few days.  We have been very busy creating the latest in our Fall 2013 collection of coats.   We will be posting them over the next several days.  In fact, we listed this lovely coat earlier today on our Etsy shop:

This blue plaid tartan print is lined with a lovely golden yellow fleece for chilly autumn walks.  It is accented with a navy blue quilted collar and a fixed coordinating belt.

We are very excited about the new range.  We have some absolutely gorgeous fabrics that we just know you are going to love!  And you will notice that this collection offers a slightly different cut to our coats.  In response to some feedback, we have incorporated a notch in the bottom hem to allow room for a tail without interfering with the line of the jacket.  We are also incorporating the very popular collar and faux belt in these designs.  In addition to creating a striking coat, it also allows us a chance to play around with different buttons on these designs.

Each day forward we will be revealing one of our new designs on Etsy.  We will be posting these on Facebook and Twitter as well.

And remember, these are custom created coats; the listings on Etsy are simply listings for our sample coat - you can order any of these designs in any size you wish.

I hope you enjoy seeing these new items as much as I have enjoyed creating them!

Cheers,

Rebecca

Custom Made - To Order!

Several people have been asking about the sizing of the Lady Maggie coats, so I thought I would take a moment to show everyone just how custom they really are.

Firstly, all the coats are designed by myself.  I create the pattern by hand.  I start by looking for inspiration on (human) fashion blogs and shops.  Once I have an idea of what I'd like to create, I make a quick sketch and then move on to a template pattern.  Once I think it's ready, I cut out some fabric to do a prototype.  I usually do these in either fleece or a lightweight cotton instead of the intended fabric.  Here, Charlie helps me work out some issues with my new fox-hunt inspired coat:

From there, I'll make adjustments and perhaps even redraw the pattern completely.  Then, I move onto a version in the intended fabric.  Here I've made up a range of coats that aren't quite ready for production:

As you can see, they are all different sizes.  Sometimes as I resize patterns I will find that there are tweaks to be made to the pattern when making it smaller or larger.  When all of this is complete and I am happy with the finished product, I will begin production for the Etsy store.

As all of my coats are handmade by my own pattern, I can make them in any size or any fabric.  That means, if someone sees a coat on my Etsy store that is Pug-sized, I can make it for their Yorkie or their Boxer.  If the coat I'm offering is in pink but they want it in black that is no problem at all.  And if they like the coat but want a satin lining instead of fleece, I can easily do that as well.

Etsy is a marketplace for people who make things.  As such, it is a very flexible place for people to place custom orders for items.  If any of my customers want a jacket I offer but want it in a different size or fabric, all they need to do is click the "ask a question" button next to the item on Etsy.  It opens a message box where they can request whatever they want.  I email them back and let them know the details.  Upon their approval, I make the custom order. Then I put a listing on my site specifically for that person.  They then click the "buy" button and we complete the transaction.  This is all usually done within a couple of days.

So please remember when you are browsing our items, anything you see can be made as a custom order for you and your furbaby.  Just let us know what you need!

Cheers!

Rebecca

Behind The Scenes In Our Studio

Every item at Lady Maggie has been handmade by me in our North Carolina studio.  I wanted to take this opportunity to allow everyone to take a peek inside.

Of course the first step in creating a Lady Maggie masterpiece is selecting the perfect fabric.

Once the fabric has been selected, then it's on to the cutting table.  There the fabric is hand cut to the pattern I have created.  Certain fabrics such as our wool and boucle fabrics are destined to become jackets.  Some of our fabrics do double duty as they will be used for collars, beds and cushions!  Here I am cutting out a pattern on the gorgeous Michael Miller fabric, Sunny Russian Floral.  This particular fabric has been discontinued, so when our stock is depleted there will be no more items available in this stunning fabric.

Once the fabric has been cut to the desired pattern, it's on to the sewing machine.  Several of our items, such as the Chanel-inspired coats, require loads of intricate stitching.  The fine details such as the satin ribbon edging add to the complexity of the design.  But I think we can all agree that the end product is well worth the extra time and attention.

Meanwhile, sometimes I have some close supervision whilst completing my tasks.  In this case, Denny is watching over me to ensure quality control.

Some of our items, such as our donut beds, require serging.  This extra step ensures the seams are extremely durable and will withstand years of wear and tear.

We even have an industrial embroidery machine for personalizing items or adding a decorative touch.  We brought this machine with us when we emigrated from England.  In addition to the thousands of stock images and fonts, this machine gives us the capability to create our own designs.  We are excited about some potential projects; perhaps we will share some teaser images in the future.  Meanwhile, can you make out that beautiful Union Jack? Just gorgeous!

Well that concludes our tour.  I hope you have enjoyed the behind-the-scenes peak at our studio.  We are extremely proud of our space.  And we are extremely proud of our brand.  We feel the time and attention to detail in our pet accessories helps to set us apart from automated, mass-produced products.

Meanwhile, here's a teaser of a gorgeous houndstooth wool fabric that I have in mind for a new coat. It is yet another fabric we have imported from England.  Which means that not only is it impeccable quality but also it will be a limited-run fabric for Lady Maggie.

Please check back with us and see what we have created with this lovely British fabric.

Cheers!
